This week, the theme for my kids’ yoga class was “Play-Doh” to celebrate Mother’s Day.
I thought back to when my son was born. Here was this perfect bundle in my arms. I remember thinking I was responsible for this brand-new life.
Every action that I took would be part of molding and shaping his life. I was going to make mistakes, but it was about following my instincts and my heart.
As Mothers and Mother figures, we always joke that no one ever gave us a rules book on being the perfect Mom,
I used the Play-Doh to show my class how fast something can change right before our eyes.

The first goal was to have the kids make the Play-Doh into a ball, then put it in front of them and have them not touch it.
That was not easy. The kids’ hands wanted to go straight to playing. I explained that the ball of Play-Doh was them. They laughed so hard. I reminded them that as a Mom, you start with us as a little ball. Our job as mothers is to guide you in your growth and change.
We took the Play-Doh, and they changed it into a variety of shapes. They added feathers and buttons. Some made footprints, others even sat on the Play-Doh. I helped some make shapes they couldn’t by reminding them that’s what Moms do. We help to mold. to reshape and to guide you.

The last part was to roll the Play-Doh into a long shape as long as we could. I wanted the kids to see how much it had grown from the little ball that I asked them not to touch. It grew and changed many times into something unique and beautiful.
That first little perfect bundle I held that first time, my son, was my ball of Play-Doh. He has learned how to shape and grow into the person he has become.
As Mothers, we shape, we mold, we love.
Happy Mother’s Day
