Heyyyy it’s the Fonz!

Miss Suzanne blog

I remember one day when my son was in third grade I was looking in the newspaper for daily events. I noticed the “The Fonze”, Henry Wrinkler, was going to be doing a book signing for a new kids series he had written.  I didn’t even think about the book signing I was just excited my son would meet someone who was an icon from my childhood. Someone who I watched on my favorite show ” Happy Days”……The Fonze 😃👍

When we sat down to listen to him speak, I no longer saw the Fonz. The man in a leather jacket was now in a sweater and tie. The man who was the cool motorcycle stud was now sitting behind a pile of books that he had written. The man who had exuded so much confidence and was fearless on television started to share his story with us.

The man I was watching became a different kind of hero that day. He shared his stories of struggles in school, struggles with teachers, struggles with family. He talked about his learning disabilities and how he conquered and accepted them….the Fonz was as human as they come.

My son and I bought all 7 of the books. When we asked him to sign them, he wrote an individual note in each one. My son talked to him about a struggle in school and I will never forget what he told him. “Meet great people in your life, meet people that inspire you, some people will come and go in your life but treasure those that that will mentor you. Choose great people in life and great things will happen”

I have always taken my son to get books signed by authors. But this was not just a signing this was a life lesson for both my son and myself…thank you Mr Henry Wrinkler… today we met a great person.
