My Favorite Movie

Do you remember your favorite movie when you were younger?

I was looking for music to play in the car today. I put 0n the soundtrack to a movie I use to love. Each song that played I knew exactly which scene that it was from. It is amazing that a song could bring you back to a time and place where and when you watched the movie.

As I drove to this soundtrack I was reminded of my childhood and my favorite movies.

We had one cable channel to get movies. When my movie came on I would put a tape recorder by the television and record. I would go everywhere with the tape player and try to memorize all the words and songs of the movies.

During the summer months, I would put my tape recorder next to me and just play the movies over and over again.

The three movies were Grease, Urban Cowboy, and The Best Little Whorehouse In Texas with Dolly Parton. These were not your usual favorites but they were mine.

When I look at these movies now, I see the common thread. They all have characters that represent tough exteriors with hearts inside that are searching for love and acceptance.

As they search for themselves, they find that what they are looking for has been right there the entire time.

The movies I loved when I was younger allowed me to cheer for each character as I played my tape recorder over and over again.  I saw love win in the end.

As a preschool teacher, I am able to mirror my favorite movies. My kids may not be cowboys but they have exteriors that are new to this world and hearts that need protection.  Like a movie, I will teach them to be open to love and acceptance.

I will watch as they write the ending of their favorite movie.

So next time you are looking for some music to listen to in the car, plug in your iPhone and turn on the soundtrack from your favorite movie.  Smile and enjoy the memories.
